On 8th January to 10th February 2015 in downtown of Batambang Province, H.E Khov Meas, Deputy Secretary General of Tonlesap Authority, discussed and monitored the First Step on the Result of the Request for Registration of Battambang Province as UNESCO's World Heritage City, which was organized by the Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with ASEAN-Japan Centre under the auspices of H.E Pak Sokhom, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Tourism, with the participation from H.E Chuch Phoeun, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts , H.E Chan Sophal, Governors of Battambang Province, UNESCO representatives, high ranking officials of Battambang Province, officials from related institution, and more than 60 participants from tourism agencies. The purpose of this workshop was to discuss, exchange ideas, collect and compile document data on the potential of the cultural and natural heritage as well as ancient constructions and historic constructions in Battambong Province.
The program of the workshop was 2-day duration and consists of a field visit of the participant to Banan Temple and ancient houses. The next step is that the working group of the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts and partner organizations will prepare a detailed inventory list of the heritage buildings in Battambang Town by increasing the researches on the works of architecture, construction, architectural perspective, construction material and so on. Finally, the team will comprehensively collect and compile basic documents and request for approval from the government in order to complete the registration form of Battambang the city as UNESCO heritage.
